Although autumn is one of my favourite seasons, I’m always a little sad when I feel the air changing. It seemed to happen earlier than usual this year.
I thought the “August is the Sunday of summer” meme circulating about Instagram was so true, but it also got me wondering then, what’s September all about?
If you live in Canada, like me, apparently it’s the start of “pumpkin spice season” at Tim Horton’s (that’s our version of Starbuck’s – who, by the way, also have their pumpkin spice menu up, I see!) Talk about giving customers more of what they love – or for a longer period of time – it too has started early this year!
SEPTEMBER ALWAYS FEELS LIKE A FRESH START
For me, September always feels like the start of a new year. After so many years of going to school myself, plus the number of years I’ve sent my kids off to a new grade, I guess its only natural to feel that way.
This year it especially feels like a fresh start because over the summer, I gave my business a once over with a fine tooth comb to see what’s working well and what I could improve.
Once I had a sense of where the holes were, I realized I needed to do two things.
FEELING MORE CONFIDENT
First, I needed to ask for some help in the areas that were outside my zone of genius (ie. to finally choose a niche market and update my website copy to speak to said niche.) It’s a work in progress but I’ll let you know when it’s done and ready to be revealed.
And then once I was able to see who my aligned client really is, I needed to work through my own Foundations Program– yes, the exact one I use with my 1:1 clients – to set a new course of action, revise my vision for the next 12 months and a create a sound strategy that’s simple, and complements who I am and how I work best.
Even though I have a couple of steps left to complete, I’m already feeling more confident that I know how to get from where I am today to where I want to be in a year from now.
SEPTEMBER IS A WONDERFUL TIME TO CHECK IN AND RE-FOCUS
While January is traditionally the time entrepreneurs make new plans, there’s no rule that says you HAVE to do it then. September is a wonderful time to check in with yourself and re-focus your thoughts and energy around your business and the impact you want to create in the world.
